Our Ex-Military Careers community came together yesterday for our International Women’s Day networking initiative, ‘Empowering Women: Breaking the Bias’, hosted by the lovely Lucy Neal.
This event shone a spotlight on four inspirational women leaders, exploring their journeys from the military into civilian life and into leadership roles, highlighting the progress made to amplify women’s voices. We uncovered the stereotypes and disparity for women in the workplace and explored how businesses can do more to empower and attract women veterans.
During the discussion we were joined by four women leaders:
Katharina Dalka – Founder, CEO at StellarOne
Sam Smith – EMEA Managing Director at Kelly OCG
Melissa Washington – Founder, CEO at United States Women’s Veterans Association
Sarah A.W. Christman CFIRM - Non-Executive Director, Institute of Risk Management (IRM)
We explored the roadblocks that women can face in reaching senior roles, as well as the importance of leading with empathy. Our panel shared their experiences with gender disparity in the workplace and how we can do more to normalise these conversations and encourage inclusivity.
